Went with a friend to IHOP this morning, they were short-staffed. OK, not pleasant that it took longer than usual to get seated. There was a man and his wife there, the man got extremely upset because his drink was not filled when he wanted it done (maybe it did take awhile).
The waitress apologized profusely, but he was not be satisfied. He was very rude and did not care who heard. He told the manager that he didnt want to pay for his meal but he would. He got up and walked out, leaving his poor wife in tears and extremely embarrased. This brought me and my friend to tears as she said in passing, “this is my life.” My friend and I have both been in relationships where we were the ones to be embarrassed and/or verbally/physically mistreated. We gave the waitress and extra tip and said how sorry we were that this happened.
The saddest part of the whole ordeal is that this man could not control his anger and made the people around him very uncomfortable. Our sadness and solidarity with her was palpable. If you are in a relationship where this resonates with you, make sure you want to be there, if not, there are so many resources to help you. We, Renewed Life Ministry WV will help you.
PS we gave the waitress a very good tip
